Going for a trip sounds so fun that sometimes we tend to get so excited and forget about the safety precautions that we ought to do before leaving our homes. Leaving the house may be stressful on your part, especially if you keep worrying during your vacation if everything is okay and you will still be coming home to a house when you get back. :p These are just some of the things homeowners should remember before they go on a trip:
A few days before your trip, check the condition of your electrical wirings. On the day you leave the house, check that you never leave anything plugged. Not only does it consume electricity, but the chances of having a fire increases when you leave appliances plugged in. Also, turn off all the lights. You may also to contact your barangay or village security to let them know that you’ll be away. That way they could periodically check your home. Also, ask a neighbor to glance at your home every now and then so they’d be able to let you know also if someone has stopped by. If you have alarm systems, make sure they are in working condition and also notify the security companies that you will be away.
Store your valuables in a safe or a secure locked area while you’re away. To make sure sure that you do not lose anything, keep an inventory of your valuables and check them one by one when you get back.
If you have pets and is maintaining a garden, make arrangements to have someone feed your pets and water your plants. If there’s no one available, you can make boarding arrangements for your pets.
If you’re going away for a long time, make sure to have your bills paid early. Bills such as credit card bills will accumulate interest if you forget to pay them on time. Also, cancel your subscriptions such as magazines and newspapers so there won’t be any clutter in your front door when you get back.
Dispose of any your perishables. Certainly you do not want to go back with your home smelling of something decomposing, right?
These are only some of the most important things to check on and there are still tons of others things that would be needed to be checked upon when you leave. If you are that worried about leaving your home, make a checklist days before your departure so you will not forget anything and you’d have a peace of mind while you’re on vacation.
